VLUK Principal's Welcome

Dene Whittal-Williams, VLUK Principal

Hello and thank you for visiting the Virtual Learning UK website following your attendance at this year's AfPE Conference.

VLUK was founded 10 years ago by two former PE teachers who believed in the importance of further and higher education study options for young people, with a passion and gift for sport. From there we have grown and are proud to now educate over 1,200 learners each year across our exciting range of vocational programmes.

As a registered training organisation with the DfES and the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), we take education seriously and have passed stringent annual due diligence checks to be allowed to deliver our fully accredited qualifications.

We are proud that our programmes have consistent retention and achievement rates of 95%+ per year and that the vast majority of our alumni have gone on to either higher education, full time employment or playing sport professionally.

Success through Education

Our innovative learning cloud The Sport Brain™,’ enables students who wish to study a  further or higher education qualification to access their coursework, assignments and learning resources 24/7.  The Sport Brain™  gives teaching staff and independent verifiers the ability to monitor and assess progress anytime, anywhere and to provide instant access to those that need it, including external assessors.  Learning online via the ‘The Sport Brain™’ increases flexibility and engagement while saving time and reducing costs.

Success through Sport

Thanks to our partnerships with academies, multi academy trusts and further education colleges across England and Wales, we now have over 1200 learners on our post-16 BTEC Study Programmes at a large selection of Professional and Semi Professional Sports Clubs.

As part of their learning experience, we ensure all VLUK students are immersed into the heart of the professional sports club and provided with opportunities to gain coaching and refereeing qualifications, as well as work experience. Learners also benefit from professional club partner involvement and entrance into national leagues.

VLUK also delivers Traineeships and a number of Apprenticeships, including the level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Physical Education; Sports Development and Customer Services at 16-18 and 19+. These are delivered with a host of Sports and Business sector partners.

Exit routes from our Level 3 programmes are into university, work in the sports industry, and professional sport, with over 70% of 2016 leavers progressing into further/higher education and training, and over 97% into positive destinations. We achieve this, by offering our own exit routes, with many delivery partners following our HND in Sports Coaching programme, allowing students to stay with their professional sports clubs for a further two years.
