Higher National Diploma in Sport at Castleford Tigers
Overview At Hereford Academy we are proud to be amongst the first sites to offer the Higher National Diploma in Sport in partnership with VLUK and University Centre Colchester.
This partnerships gives young people the opportunity to continue their education towards an Honours Degree, whilst continuing to develop as coaches and leaders.
Once the Level 5 HND is completed, progression opportunities are available on to Level 6 (Hons) degrees in related subject areas.
Alongside the education provided by VLUK and University Centre Colchester, students have the opportunity to participate in real life work experience, that is relevant to future careers. For most this is in sports development and coaching, gaining work experience delivering and managing various programmes alongside our outstanding curriculum PE Department, as well as various school camps and clubs.
Work Experience Each student will work with the Post 16 work experience co-ordinator in completing their own placement learning plan.
Based on their interest and aspirations placements will be sourced to accommodate these desires where possible.
The placement will be monitored between the student, the provider and the academy in identifying any further opportunities to enhance or extend the placement outcomes.
Typical examples would include work experience in both coaching and sports development roles, with the possibility of applying some of your newly acquired management expertise in the workplace.
Our outstanding PE Department is made up of a number of highly qualified individuals, who are able to support your development as a coach. Particular specialisms within our PE staff include Rugby, Football, Trampolining, Basketball, Racquet Sports, Outdoor Education and Cricket. However, experience of further sports will be available through the PE curriculum.
We encourage students to develop and support our work in the local community. We work with Sport England, National Governing Bodies of Sport, local authorities, clubs, volunteers, coaches and communities. As such, you could be involved in organising events for any of the above, where your roles could include anything from coaching, to preparing the marketing material, or even managing the whole project!
Education The education, provided by University Centre Colchester, and VLUK, consists of the Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Sport: Coaching and Sports Development.
