Apprenticeships – PE & School Sport
This Apprenticeship is designed to provide a vocational pathway into the provision of Children’s Physical Activity and School Sport delivery and development, in a range of environments including the community and schools.
It’s particularly useful for those who already work, or aspire to work, in a physical education and school sport setting. Designed to provide them with a greater understanding of programmes of study for physical education, the national curriculum and the environment in which they will be operating.
As an Apprentice in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Physical Education and School Sport, you can expect to be employed for 30 hours a week in a setting that gives you the opportunity to develop coaching and leadership skills with young people. This could be with a professional sports club, a coaching company, or even a Primary/Secondary school.
You will need a passion for sport and coaching young people, as well as the desire to work hard to achieve your goals.
As a Level 3 Apprentice, you will be expected to lead on certain initiatives, and may also need to manage some junior staff.
Many ‘PESS’ apprentices are engaged in after school clubs, running development centres, and even holiday camps.
On top of the 30 hours of work, you will need to spend a minimum of 6 hours on your studies. This will ensure that you keep up to date with everything, and provide the evidence required to achieve the Apprenticeship.
All learning and assessment resources are provided on The Sport Brain, and will be supported by an on-site professional mentor, who will be able to give you advice and guidance on completing your work as well as future career aspects.
You will also be assigned an assessor, who will visit you in the workplace to assess your progress.
