Our degree programmes offer a world-class stepping stone, providing the opportunity to develop coaching and employability skills required to be successful in your chosen career in sports coaching and development.
Degree programmes in Sport: Coaching and Sports Development give students the opportunity to develop knowledge in the sports industry and, just as importantly, the necessary employability skills required to be successful in their chosen career.
The programmes provide the opportunity to develop an understanding of the roles of sports development and coaching, as well as practice managerial skills and knowledge that can be applied within a variety of sports industries.
The team of lecturers delivering this programme are all experts in their field and importantly maintain their connections with industry, including the coaching and management of International and high performance sports teams, Time Warner and various professional sports clubs.
A range of guest speakers and industry visits complement the team of lecturers and further emphasises the dedication the team have in maintaining the vocational relevance of the degree programme.

In addition to two days of lectures and seminars, students are required to undertake at least one day per week in a work placement. Our exclusive partnerships with professional sports clubs mean that we can provide a valuable advantage in these placements, and subsequently when it comes to applying for a job.
Upon graduation, students have gained successful employment in a range of private, public and charitable organisations.
Employers welcome the combination of academic and practical competencies that the programme provides.
Students have the opportunity to gain the skills, knowledge and aptitude needed for a successful career in sports development, health clubs, fitness clubs, sports centre management and sports coaching.
These programmes are delivered in partnership with Colchester Institute.
Colchester Institute has obtained University Centre Colchester (UCC) status for its Higher Education building/provision.
Colchester Institute has a 50 year history of providing undergraduate and postgraduate education, including engineering, construction, business, IT & computing, health and social care, art, digital media, performance and film production.
The programmes on offer are research informed and employer led resulting in 94% of students gaining employment following graduation, 66% will achieve a 1st or 2:1 (good) Degree and overall 87% of students will obtain a relevant qualification.
UCC’s Higher Education Centre, opened in 2012 and offers a dedicated space for higher education students; it includes quiet and group study spaces and common rooms. Across the Colchester Campus, students benefit from an excellent range of specialist resources and facilities, including dance and drama studios, a Cisco networking suite and programming laboratory, onsite and town centre based art galleries and studio space, a well-equipped library and resource centre.
The bustling, vibrant campus has a great mix of students and there is always something going on. The three refectories, take-away and coffee shops offer plenty of choice throughout the day. You can even enjoy a delicious meal in an award winning restaurant! Great value treatments are offered in the hair and beauty salons. The Swinburne Hall hosts live performances throughout the year and the Student Services team organises a calendar of events.

Access to Learning Fund
Under current government legislation Hardship Funds have been established to provide discretionary support to certain categories of student. If you think your financial circumstances may prevent you from attending a full-time or part-time higher education or sandwich course, then you may be eligible for financial support from the Access to Learning Fund.

Self-funded or Sponsored students
University Centre Colchester accept payments by instalment using FlexED. This is ideal for students who may be doing a 2nd degree, a self-funded postgraduate course or who is being sponsored by their employer.

Career Development Loans
If you do not qualify for student finance, e.g 2nd Degree or post graduate study you may be able to apply for a Career Development Loan.
Professional and Career Development Loans are bank loans used to pay for courses and training that may help with progressing your career or helping get you into work.
A government initiative, you may be able to borrow between £300 and £10,000. Subject to terms and conditions.
Loans are usually offered at a reduced interest rate and the government pays interest while you’re studying.

University Centre Colchester also accept the ELC credits from the Ministry of Defence The ELC scheme provides financial support in the form of a single up-front payment in each of a maximum of three separate financial years.
ELC funding is only available for pursuit of higher level learning i.e. for courses that result in a nationally recognised qualification at Level three or above on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (England and Wales).

Apply through UCAS
If you are applying full-time, you will need to apply through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS), which is a UK-based charity whose main role is providing the application process for almost all British universities.
The service costs £23 for a multi application and £12 for a single application in 2015, however it is possible this may increase for 2016 applicants. Each course has a unique "course code" that you will need to make note of and use during your application.

International Applications made via UCAS will be forwarded to us for processing but the offer and acceptance procedure is made through UCAS and not directly with us. Further study at Level 6 (Hons) Degrees
Sports Development and coaching roles with professional clubs, National governing bodies. Management and supervisory roles in these organisations.
