JB Sports Coaching making waves in Horncastle

New VLUK education partner, JB Sports Coaching, has been making waves in it’s home location of Horncastle. Ollie Johnson and Steve Brown, directors of the club, launched their new venture this academic year with its first cohort of 12 students enrolled on their BTEC Level Three Extended Diploma in Sport.

After first hand experience of similar courses, both Ollie and Steve, are proud to be able to support local students who don’t have to travel to nearby Lincoln and can make use of the local facilities within Horncastle.

The BTEC course offered by JB Sport Coaching and VLUK is equivalent to 3 A-levels. Students are currently able to use a number of local sporting clubs as well as gaining first hand experience of coaching in some of the primary schools where JB provide specialist PE lessons.

Following on from this course, successful students can plan to go on to university, full-time employment in the sports and leisure industry or an apprenticeship with JB.

Student Will Chamberlain (16), a former pupil at Banovallum School, said he was really enjoying the course. He added: “At first, I was thinking of biology in the Sixth Form but I’ve always wanted to do something sport-based and when I heard about this I knew it was perfect for me. It’s great.”

The first four months of the course has been incredible for both the club and the students. VLUK are incredibly proud of the progress the students are making and the support they are receiving from the club. The future for the club looks bright with lots of local interest for the next academic year and a plan for the future to expand the numbers of students.
