Against The Odds Posted on 31 October 2023 Four campuses from VLUK have engaged with Against the Odds Education and Awareness, a Social Enterprise CIC (Community Interest Company) that offers educational programmes to the next generation on the dangers of the gambling industry and further risk of addiction. Tooting and Mictham, Eastleigh, Dean Walling and G3A all took part in the sessions and were able to ask the host, Aaron Abbot, about his own experience with gambling addiction. A valuable part of the session was spotting a problem in yourself or with friends and finding a way to discuss it and work towards a resolution. The learners found the session to be very valuable. Year one learner, Malachi commented 'Aaron was really open with his experiences and made me start thinking about gambling and how easy it is to let things get out of control. I feel a bit more aware of the pitfalls.' And another learner said 'I'm 18 and have gambled before. Only once! I didn't see it as gambling as it was just a roulette machine. This has made me think about it, not sure I'll be doing that again.'
