All post holders are expected to consistently review and assess their performance alongside colleagues and engage in positive and critical debate on pedagogic issues.

All lecturers must be committed to inclusive learning and ensuring that they take on the very best practice to meet individual learner needs including the promotion of equal opportunities. Higher Education is an ever changing service and all staff are expected to participate constructively in UCS activities and to adopt a flexible approach to their work.

  • Demonstrate thorough subject knowledge including significant and recent developments, as well as with professional practice where applicable.
  • Deliver excellence in assessment, including developing a range of assessment items that demonstrates innovation and sector best practice, and undertaking assessment processes in line with UCS policy and practice.
  • Provide high quality management of modules and/or small/partial programmes in line with UCS policy and practice, taking a proactive approach to the implementation of established quality assurance processes, contributing to the design and implementation of quality enhancement initiatives, and undertaking all necessary associated administration.

Job Description:

Are you interested in working to support students in one of the largest independent providers of 16-18 year-old full time study programmes in the country?

VLUK are experts at working within industry settings and specialise in programmes for both FE full time study programmes and the full range of HE provision across several specialisms including Sport, Performing Arts and Business.

If you want to make a difference to the lives of thousands of students then consider becoming a governor with VLUK.

You may have thought “I haven't got time to be a governor”, or “I cant attend meetings” well as a modern nationwide organisation you can! We hold meetings during the day and online!

On appointment, Governors sit on the full Governing Body and some Governors also sit on one of our Committees. We encourage all governors to take an interest in the organisation and would support you in making visits to our provision to see it working in in professional environments, Football and Rugby Clubs as well as Performing Arts Theatres.

Governors are unpaid, voluntary positions although appropriate expenses are payable.

VLUK is very aware that both new, and existing Governors, should have access to a full programme of training and support to enable them to discharge their responsibilities effectively and with confidence.

The Chair of Governors will take all new members through an induction process using nationally-devised materials.

VLUK seeks diversity in terms of the background of its Governors. There is an expectation that all prospective Governors would share the following characteristics:

  • A real interest in education and training
  • Skills and experience that will benefit VLUK
  • A commitment to act as an advocate for the organisation and to act in the best interests of VLUK at all times
  • A commitment to working with integrity, openness and honesty

We would welcome anyone who has an interest in our organisation but in particular those with expertise / interest in Teaching and Learning, Student Experience and Finance / HR
