Hyper-individualism

Posted on

VLUK Stagedoor learners used their tutorial time to discuss whether society is becoming hyper-individualised. This was based on a news article which reported that in the first half of this decade, in the charts, there were only three weeks where the number one spot was held by a band, rather than a solo singer. This contrasted with the first half of the 1980s where there were 143 weeks with bands at number one, and the first half of the 1990s there were 141 weeks. Stagedoor tutor, Jenny said "We had a really lively and interesting discussion about whether individualism is taking over from collectivism in modern society. Learners worked in groups to research their point of view and then presented their ideas to the rest of the group".
