VLUK is celebrating the outstanding achievement of Selin, our Wealdstone campus tutor, who captained England’s first-ever Women’s 6-a-Side National Team to a historic bronze medal at the World Cup!
Leading the team on the international stage, Selin helped England achieve an incredible milestone in women’s football. Entering the competition as an unranked nation, the team demonstrated determination, resilience and exceptional teamwork to secure third place, taking England into the world’s top three nations in the sport.
Reflecting on the achievement, Selin said:
“To have had the privilege of captaining England’s first-ever women’s team at a World Cup and helping establish our country amongst the top three nations in the world is something I am immensely proud of. It is an experience and achievement that I will carry with me throughout both my sporting and professional career.”
Alongside her international football commitments, Selin continues to inspire learners as a tutor at VLUK’s Wealdstone campus, balancing her professional responsibilities with the demands of competing at the highest level.
Her achievement demonstrates the importance of ambition, leadership, perseverance and self-belief - qualities she strives to develop in learners through both their education and football development.
Selin is also grateful for the support she has received in balancing her teaching role with her sporting career, highlighting the importance of an environment that recognises and encourages personal and professional development. Her success provides a powerful example to learners of what can be achieved through hard work, commitment and teamwork, showing that it is possible to pursue ambitious goals both on and off the pitch.
Congratulations to Selin and the England team on this remarkable achievement!
