Stagedoor British Values

Posted on

At Stagedoor Learning this week's tutorial was on British Values. Our Year 13 learners took on the role of leaders, designing and delivering a series of creative activities for the Year 12s. This peer-led approach not only gave the Year 13s a chance to revise what they had learned last year, but also provided the Year 12s with an engaging and memorable introduction to the five key values.

The activities were as imaginative as they were informative. Year 12s stepped into a courtroom setup to explore the rule of law, learned an original song about mutual respect, and experienced forum theatre to understand the importance of tolerance. Democracy came alive through a discussion on the suffragettes an area the Year 13s know well after performing Angry Birds last summer and a lively mock debate highlighting why individual liberty should be respected. Each group also reflected on how these freedoms compare with countries where such values are not upheld.

The session was a success on multiple levels. Year 12s not only deepened their knowledge of British Values, but also developed teamwork skills and were inspired by the confident leadership of their Year 13 peers. Meanwhile, the Year 13s strengthened their understanding of the values, while honing organisation, workshop-leading, and communication skills.

This collaborative tutorial demonstrated the power of peer learning, with both year groups gaining knowledge, confidence, and valuable experience along the way.
