Timelessly Together

On Friday 7th June, the Year 12 learners from VLUK's Stagedoor campus visited Honeybourne Gate, a retirement community in Cheltenham, to perform for the residents as part of their Performing Arts in the Community unit. The learners had been tasked with putting together a 40 minute show which would entertain the residents and could be performed in the atrium at Honeybourne Gate. In response to the brief, the learners chose to put together a musical journey through the last 70 years of popular music, including hits from Elvis Presley, Abba, Billy Joel, Celine Dion, Take That, Bruno Mars and more. The show - Timelessly Together, took the theme of love through the ages and was structured as a radio show, with a juke box as part of the set. They wrote the script, arranged harmonies and choreographed routines as part of the rehearsal period, as well as doing all of the organisation, liaison with the venue, sorting of props, costumes and backing tracks, as well as completing risk assessments and ensuring that any health and safety issues were considered. They worked brilliantly and independently as a team, and performed an outstanding show for the residents.

Jo Tulip, who runs the Social Committee at Honeybourne Gate emailed afterwards to say:
"This is a big Thank You for your visit to Honeybourne Gate. I've spent all evening receiving really good comments from the many residents who attended the show. They just loved seeing the young folk, remembering the music (and the times when we had that much energy!) The whole event was so good and much appreciated, and I hope that the young folk felt the same."
