Nova Arts is a bright, exciting college in Barnsley that has grown from the success and high standards of the NovaCity dance school. The multi-storey studio offers an unparalleled learning environment.
Over many years in the dance industry Nova has established a network of professional and active tutors ready to give their real-world experience. This team of professional teachers, choreographers and directors ensures Nova can provide the highest quality training, education and industry guidance to further our learners’ careers.
The course covers a range of traditional styles of dance along with equipping learners with the skills to meet the constantly evolving demands of the industry. Working alongside the biggest names in the industry, Nova provides unlimited opportunities for all learners, both locally and on an international level. This includes showcases, competitions, teaching experiences and public performances.
We believe that with hard work and determination our learners’ aspirations and dreams of becoming professional dancers can come true.
NOVA offers learners either the Dance or Musical Theatre pathway, allowing you to specialise in one of the disciplines. We build the course around you, taking into account your interests and ambitions.
The course consists of 13 units over 2 years. These are split into mandatory and optional units.
Mandatory units are:
- Investigating Practitioners’ Work
- Skills and Techniques for Live Performance
- Group Performance Workshop
- Performing Arts in the Community
- Individual Performance Commission
- Final Live Performance for an Audience
- Employment Opportunities in the Performing Arts
Optional units include:
- Improvisation
- Movement in Performance
- Jazz Dance Technique
- Musical Theatre
- Street Dance Technique
- Contemporary Dance Technique
- Healthy Dancer
- Classical Ballet

Audition process:
Applicants will be invited to attend an audition workshop, which will consist of performing 2 contrasting solo performance pieces relating to the pathway of your choice, followed by an informal interview.
